Louis van Gaal begs to let Man United chiefs sign him a new striker

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has urged his bosses to let him sign a striker during the January transfer window in order to help him save his job, according to The Sun.

United have a paltry scoring record this season, netting just 25 goals in their last 25 Premier League games as they prepare to meet struggling Swansea City this weekend.

And though the manager hopes to be able to get misfiring trio Wayne Rooney, Anthony Martial and Memphis Depay scoring again, he also wants to dip into the market to bring in some reinforcements.

“It can be solved with money but also on the training pitch. Scoring goals is a quality,” he said.

“We have that quality but, at this moment, there’s a lack of confidence at the right time.

“Or maybe we need to buy another striker.”

Previous targets include Southampton’s Sadio Mane and Tottenham striker Harry Kane, though a cut price option would prove more likely at this stage of the season.
