Manchester United, Liverpool to miss out as Chelsea open talks for £40m Real Madrid star

Premier League pair Liverpool and Manchester United look set to be disappointed in their hopes of signing Toni Kroos, as Chelsea make a £40 million bid for the midfielder.

According to Fichajes [via the Daily Star], the Blues have proceeded to discussing Kroos’s potential sale with Florentino Perez and Zinedine Zidane, with Guus Hiddink and Roman Abramovich seemingly deciding that the midfield general is the ideal man to help restore the Pensioners to their former glory.

Previously untouchable midfield duo Cesc Fabregas and Nemanja Matic have failed to recreate the heights they managed last term, while it remains to be seen whether John Obi Mikel will return to being a regular fixture following his recent renaissance.

Kroos is understood to be unhappy with his first-team opportunity at the Bernabeu, particularly following the arrival of Mateo Kovacic, and Chelsea are looking to beat off their Premier League rivals to the signing of the mobile and technically proficient operator.
