Man United wonderkid named as David de Gea replacement in FA Cup

Posted by

The injury to Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea prior to their Europa League match against Midtjylland came as quite a shock and exposed the lack of depth the Red Devils had at the position. As a result, the club have brought in Dean Henderson, one of their top goalkeeping prospects, to take De Gea’s place while he recovers.

According to the Metro, the 18-year-old Henderson has been recalled from his loan spell to Stockport County to take the backup goalkeeper position. Sergio Romero is the only healthy goalkeeper on the roster due to the injuries to De Gea as well as third-string goalkeeper Sam Johnstone.

Henderson is likely to be on the bench behind Romero for Man United’s FA Cup clash with Shrewsbury Town on Monday.

Though the injury to David de Gea did not result in any ligament damage, he is not expected to return to the lineup immediately.
