Jose Mourinho sees England international as key asset in Manchester United rebuild

According to the Mirror, Jose Mourinho believes Wayne Rooney can be a valuable component as he looks to rebuild Manchester United.

The Portuguese coach was axed by Chelsea towards the end of 2015 after overseeing a miserable run with the Premier League champions, who were mired in the bottom half of the table when the ex-Inter Milan coach was dismissed.

Despite his struggles at Stamford Bridge, Mourinho remains a highly respected coach, and has been tipped to replace Louis van Gaal, who appears to be limping towards the departure lounge at Old Trafford.

Should he replace the Dutch coach, Mourinho is understood to be planning to use Rooney—one of the club’s few genuine stars—as a key asset as he looks to rebuild the Red Devils.

The England international has recently been courted by two Chinese sides, but is understood to be planning to remain at Old Trafford and help the club return to their former glory.
