Social Media: Chelsea international posts injury update on Facebook

Chelsea defender Kurt Zouma has taken to social media to post an update on his injury condition.

“Hello my friends!” the France international began cheerily, writing on his official Facebook page. “I came back home yesterday night from Barcelona after a very good operation.

“Thank you for your support,” he continued. “May God bless you all.”

The centre-back was injured during the Blues’ Premier League bout with Manchester United, and was replaced after 59 minutes in considerable discomfort after appearing to hyperextend his knee after landing following a header.

The Pensioners drew the match 1-1 as Diego Costa’s late equaliser cancelled out Jesse Lingard’s stunning opener, but their point came at a cost, with Zouma ruled out for the rest of the season.

The defender will surely miss France’s European Championships campaign on home soil this summer, and his absence has severely weakened the Blues’ defence.

Without him, for the subsequent match against Newcastle United, Gary Cahill came into the heart of the defence alongside John Terry, although an injury to the latter in that match led to his own absence from the Champions League bout against Paris Saint-Germain.

Branislav Ivanovic moved into the heart of the defence for that match, with Abdul Rahman Baba promoted to the starting XI at left-back, and Cesar Azpilicueta moving across to right-back.
