Ex-Arsenal hard-man Martin Keown has grown more and more cynical about his former side’s chances in the Premier League this season, and believes their north London rivals Tottenham are the ones who will lift the trophy, according to his Daily Mail column.
Arsenal have once again capitulated heading into the tail end of the season, crashing out of the FA Cup and Champions league in quick succession and giving themselves a huge amount to do in the Premier League.
This season was a chance to really make that step up for Arsene Wenger’s side, with Chelsea, Manchester City, and some of the other usual title challengers underperforming. If anything they’ve taken a step backwards though, a fact all too evident to Keown.
“Actually, even though a lot of people seem to think Leicester have got one hand on the trophy, I don’t think they will win the league,” he wrote.
“I think Tottenham will and I feel that more strongly now than I have done at any point this season.”
It’s hard to know which would annoy Arsenal fans more, as both would be a real blow to their egos. On the one hand, the hatred between Arsenal and Tottenham fans is so strong that it would be a real blow for Gooners to see their rivals lift the trophy. However, after going so many years without the title, how embarrassing would it be to admit that Leicester City – a team struggling to stay in the Premier League last season – got there before they did?

It remains to be seen whether Keown will be proved right or not, as Leicester have certainly gotten themselves into an excellent position. It definitely seems like Arsenal have missed their opportunity though, and not only would they need to go on a real run to stand any chance, they’d need their opposition to slip up as well as a helping hand from teams elsewhere in the league.
