Liverpool ready to break transfer record for next Anthony Martial

Though Liverpool have plenty of talent on the roster already, they have been lacking a young starlet to develop since selling Raheem Sterling prior to the start of the season. With Anthony Martial proving that a very young player can come in and excel right away, every team wants someone like him. Now it looks as though Liverpool are going to try make Anthony Martial’s former teammate, AS Monaco attacking midfielder Thomas Lemar, their building block for the future.

According to the Express via L’Equipe, Liverpool have made contact with Lemar’s reps over a possible transfer move. The 20-year-old Lemar has five goals and three assists through 23 games for the Ligue 1 giants this season.

Per the source, Monaco want a similar package to what they got from Manchester United for Anthony Martial at the end of the 2015 summer transfer window – somewhere in the area of £58 million.

Such a fee, if paid by the Reds in full, would shatter their own transfer record of £35 million paid for Andy Carroll in 2011.
