Manchester United made a number of changes to their squad this summer and one of the prominent ones was allowing Anthony Martial to leave the club.

Having joined the Red Devils back in 2015, Martial became a fan favourite in the earlier part of his Man United career.

He announced himself as a Man United player by scoring against Liverpool on his debut.

However, his career failed to reach the heights expected of him and injuries affected his progress constantly.

He showed flashes of brilliance but never truly became the player that Man United fans wanted.

The Frenchman left the Red Devils this summer and became a free agent. He is now closing in on a deal to sign for a new club.

Transfer news specialist Fabrizio Romano has reported that Greek side AEK Athens are close to completing the signing of Martial.

He wrote on his X account:

“Greek side AEK Athens are closing in on deal to sign Anthony Martial as free agent.

“After talks collapsed with Flamengo, AEK Athens are confident to get it sealed in the next hours.”

Man United signed a replacement of Anthony Martial this summer

The French attacker was considering his options all summer and even discussed a move to Flamengo but nothing materialised on that front.

He now has the opportunity to revive his career in Athens, Greece.

The former Monaco player Martial represented Man Utd 317 times, scored 90 goals and registered 47 assists.

He will be hoping to get back to his best now and prove himself once again.

The Red Devils replaced him with the signing of Dutch attacker Joshua Zirkzee in the summer transfer window.
