Chelsea midfielder turns down big bucks offer to leave Stamford Bridge

It looks like Guus Hiddink’s top cheerleader won’t be leaving Stamford Bridge any time soon as midfielder John Obi Mikel is poised to pass on a big-money transfer offer. The Chelsea midfield veteran has received offers from a pair of Turkish Super Lig clubs – Galasataray and Fenerbahce – but will not accept either.

According to SuperSport via The Sun, Galasataray in particular have offered Mikel £110,000-a-week to play for them – a full 50% raise from his current wage with Chelsea. Fenerbahce are believed to have made an offer as well. Nevertheless the Nigerian superstar reportedly rejected the offers.

Mikel is still under contract with Chelsea through 2017 and has enjoyed his time with Chelsea under Guus Hiddink, openly calling for the Dutch manager to take over the position full-time prior to the team’s announcement that Antonio Conte would take over next season.

Whether or not Conte will grant Mikel a move to a higher-paying club when he joins the team, however, will be worth watching.
