Video: Hart makes hash of Bale free-kick as Wales lead England

Wales weren’t great in the first half of their Euro 2016 clash with England, but a Gareth Bale free-kick ensured they took a 1-0 lead into the break.

England predictably dominated possession, but once again did nothing with it. There were very few chances created, and when the odd opportunity did come along they just weren’t able to convert.

Raheem Sterling unquestionably had the best chance of the half, with Adam Lallana putting a great cross in on the counter-attack. Sterling showed a complete lack of composure and threw himself at the ball though, skying it high and wide when it seemed easier to score.

Right before half-time England were punished for their profligacy, when Wayne Rooney gave away a needless free-kick in what seemed like a harmless position. Gareth Bale fired a a free-kick in towards Joe Hart, and the Manchester City keeper made a real hash of the save.

England now have a mountain to climb in the second half, and could find themselves in real trouble if they can’t mount a comeback.
