Liverpool have no interest in £10m move for Championship winger

Liverpool have no intention of joining the race to sign Newcastle United star Andros Townsend despite speculation suggesting otherwise.

The England international has a £10.5m release clause in his contract, and following Newcastle’s relegation from the Premier League this past season, he has been linked with an exit from the club.

Reports suggested that Liverpool were amongst the teams interested in signing the former Tottenham man, but that has been swiftly dismissed by the Liverpool Echo.

The publication have insisted that Jurgen Klopp has no plans to move for Townsend, and the player simply isn’t on the German tactician’s list of targets this summer.

It’s no secret that Klopp wishes to continue to bolster his squad ahead of next season though, and in turn he has been linked with various players including Southampton star Sadio Mane, as noted by the Echo.

However, it remains to be seen whether or not he is able to land his preferred target, as Townsend will now have to continue to wait to discover whether or not any other interested party will prise him away from St James’ Park.

The 24-year-old made 16 Premier League appearances last season, scoring four goals and providing two assists. However, he was unable to help Rafa Benitez and his men avoid the drop, and in turn the Magpies will now be considering their options when it comes to their squad as they plot a way of an immediate return to the English top flight.
