Liverpool boss reveals why he sent defender home from US tour

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed that he sent Mamadou Sakho back home from the pre-season tour of America for repeatedly breaking club rules.

The defender who is currently out injured with an Achilles injury has infuriated Klopp with his attitude according to the Liverpool Echo.

Sakho reportedly turned up late for training, was late for a team flight from Liverpool to California last Thursday and also turned up for a team meal late after missing his treatment session at the squad camp in Palo Alto.

Klopp felt Sakho was flaunting the rules and showing him no respect resulting in the France international defender being sent home.

“I have to build a group here, we have to start new here,” Klopp said.

“So I thought maybe it made sense for him to fly home to Liverpool and after eight or 10 days when we come back we can talk about it. It’s not that serious.

“He nearly missed the departure of the plane, he missed a session and was late for a meal.

“We have some rules and we have to respect them. If somebody doesn’t respect it or somebody gives me the feeling he is not respecting it then I have to react that’s all.

“It is private how he reacted. But we had no argument, it wasn’t ‘aghh, you, no…’.

“I spoke. You cannot argue when only one person is speaking. That’s all.

“I think missed a session is missed a session. Even injured players have sessions.”

Liverpool take on Chelsea tonight in the International Championship Cup at the Rose Bowl as part of their pre-season campaign.

The Reds will also be without forwards Christian Benteke and Divock Origi while summer signing Georginio Wijnaldum will also miss the game against the Blues.
