Liverpool midfielder on verge of exit after nine years at club

Liverpool veteran Lucas Leiva could be set for a summer exit which would end a nine-year spell at the Premier League giants.

A source close to Galatasaray told Emre Sarigul that the club are in talks with the Reds over the transfer of the 29-year-old midfielder.

Negotiations have reached an advanced stage and the central midfielder could end up joining some time this week if the final details are sorted out.

The Istanbul giants want Lucas on a three-year deal and would be able to offer a salary up to €2.7 million per-season.

Galatasaray manager Riekerink made no secret of the fact Galatasaray want Lucas in his pre-match press conference ahead of the Manchester United clash on the weekend.

Riekerink said: “Lucas is one of the players we are targeting. We have been in discussions and it is true we want an experienced midfielder.”

Galatasaray ended up losing the game against United 5-2 which was their first friendly defeat over their last three games.

The Lions won the Turkish Cup last season beating rivals Fenerbahce in the final and will take on league champions Besiktas in the Super Cup before the start of the 2016-17 season.
