Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp blocks sale of star midfielder

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has delayed the departure of Lucas Leiva from the Merseyside club according to the Liverpool Echo.

The Brazil international has been closely linked with a move to Galatasaray by numerous outlets including the Mirror. However, Klopp is yet to give the green light to allow Lucas to leave the club.

The German tactician is facing a crisis in defensive positions following injuries to Joe Gomez and Joel Matip. Lucas operated at centre-back for a short spell last season and Klopp may need him to do so once again in the opening weeks of the Premier League.

Lucas is currently sidelined with a hamstring strain but should return to training over the next two weeks.

According to NTV Spor, Galatasaray are prepared to offer €3 million for Lucas. Despite the latest reports from Liverpool, the Istanbul giants remain confident that they will be able to sign the experienced midfielder.

Galatasaray sporting director Levent Nazifoglu told Turkish sports radio station Radyospor: “If Lucas Leiva puts pen to paper on a deal for Galatasaray it would not be a surprise to be honest.”
