Liverpool star believes thrashing of Premier League champions Leicester ‘sets tempo’ for season

Liverpool star Adam Lallana has stated that the Reds thrashing of Premier League champions Leicester City has set the ‘tempo’ for the season.

“Collectively as a team I thought we were outstanding,” Lallana told the club’s website.

“We got the two goals in the first half, but let them back in with some sloppy play from ourselves.

“It was no-one’s fault and as a team we probably didn’t manage the game as well as we should have at 2-0 and gave them a few sniffs.

“We said that at half-time and I thought in the second half we were outstanding again, on the front foot and got the goals at the right time.

“We’ve set the tempo for what we want Anfield to be like this season.”

Jurgen Klopp’s side recorded a 4-1 victory over the Foxes on Saturday. Liverpool took the lead after just 15 minute when Roberto Firmino found the back of the net and looked to be on course for an easy win when when Sadio Mane made it 2-0 shortly after.

However, Leicester City were gifted a goal following an error by Lucas Leiva. Liverpool managed to weather the storm and secured all three points when Adam Lallana and Firmino scored in the second half.

The Reds will be looking to carry their impressive form into next weekend’s clash with Chelsea.

Antonio Conte’s side are unbeaten in the Premier League this season and will be looking to bounce back to winning ways after being held to a 0-0 draw by Swansea City.
