New England boss faces headache as star Liverpool midfielder suffers  groin injury

England caretaker boss Gareth Southgate faces a selection headache following an injury to Adam Lallana.

The Liverpool star limped off the field after just 23 minutes during the Reds clash with Swansea City in the Premier League earlier today.

Liverpool ended up winning the game by a 2-1 scoreline, following goals from Roberto Firmino and James Milner.

According to the Sun, Lallana suffered a groin injury and is a major doubt for England’s upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Malta and Slovenia.

Lallana scored England’s only goal during their 1-0 victory over Slovakia, which turned out to be Sam Allardyce’s only game in charge. Southgate has been given the England job following the departure of the former Sunderland manager.

The report goes onto state that Liverpool are hoping that Lallana will be out for weeks and not months but will have to await the results from a proper diagnosis.

Liverpool take on their rivals Manchester United in the next round of Premier League games on October 17.
