Martin Skrtel facing a race against time ahead of Man United clash

Former Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel is facing a race against time to recover from an injury ahead of Fenerbahce’s Europa League clash with Manchester United.

The experienced centre-back broke his nose during the Yellow Canaries’ 1-0 win over Feyenoord on Thursday night, according to the Mirror.

However, Skrtel refused to be taken off and even played the full 90 minutes against Osmanlispor in the Turkish Super League on Sunday.

Manchester United host Fenerbahce at Old Trafford on October 20. The Red Devils recorded their first win in the competition on Thursday via a 1-0 victory over Zorya.

The Slovakia international underwent a nose operation earlier today and took to social media after to share a photo of himself along with the caption, “Surgery went well,i dont think i will look better than brad pit,but at least i can breath.

Skrtel joined Fenerbahce over the summer transfer window for £5 million (via Guardian).

The 31-year-old spent eight years at Anfield after joining from Zenit St Petersburg back in January 2008. Skrtel made an impressive 320 appearances for the Reds and helped them win the 2012 Carling Cup.
