Manchester United beat rivals Manchester City in the EFL Cup on Wednesday evening to progress to the next round.

As is usually the case after a derby victory, fans of the victors were out in force to rub salt in their rivals wounds. Former United full-back and current Valencia assistant manager sparked controversy after sharing an Instagram post that simply wrote: “Manchester is red.”

Neville may be a football pundit and coach these days but there is something about derby victories that can bring out the worst – or best depending on how you look at it – in us.

United will take on West Ham next in the EFL Cup quarter-finals.
