Manchester City confirmed starting line-up vs Middlesbrough: Sterling not in squad as Aguero keeps place

Raheem Sterling and Nicolas Otamendi were left out of the Manchester City squad as they prepare to face Middlesbrough at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.

Pep Guardiola will be hoping his side can build on their impressive win over Barcelona in the Champions League in midweek as they now look to put together a strong run of form.

Having faltered prior to that, questions were beginning to be asked about the Spaniard and his team, but they produced an excellent response.

Sergio Aguero had been left out against Barca in the first meeting and against Manchester United in the League Cup, but the Argentine’s good form sees him continue to lead the line.

However, Sterling and Otamendi haven’t been included in the squad for the clash with Boro, but it’s suggested as seen in the tweet below that the England international has been rested while it’s likely to be a similar scenario for his teammate.

City remain top of the Premier League table with 23 points from their opening 10 games, and they’ll have the chance to open up a three-point gap temporarily with both Arsenal and Liverpool playing on Sunday.
