The agent of Arsenal defender Hector Bellerin has revealed that his client is closing in on putting pen to paper on a new contract with the club.
Bellerin has picked up from where he left off last season so far this year and has continued to establish himself as an integral part of Arsene Wenger’s plans and success.
In turn, with speculation of interest from former club Barcelona, as noted by The Guardian, the Gunners have been keen to offer new terms and ensure that the Spanish international is committed long-term and it appears as though a new contract will be signed soon.
“We are speaking and are now a lot closer than we were two weeks ago. In a normal situation he will sign,” his agent Albert Botines told Guardian Sport.
“Héctor is very happy at Arsenal. This would be the fourth time he has signed a new contract at the club and it is clear he has made good progress.”
It will be key for Arsenal to now get their top players to commit their futures and continue to push the club in the right direction moving forward.
Sunday’s draw in the north London derby was a disappointing result for most, but it doesn’t take away from the fact that the Gunners are unbeaten since the opening weekend of the season and are in a strong position after a quarter or so of the campaign.
With Wenger’s summer signings making an impact coupled with their star individuals stepping up and delivering, Bellerin signing a new deal will be another boost for the club as they eye silverware this season and in the years ahead.
