Liverpool are preparing offers for two Premier League players in a bid to bolster their title bid, according to the Daily Star.

Per the source, Reds boss Jurgen Klopp has set his sights on a new striker in January but has also wants to strengthen his defensive options.

The report states that Klopp is interested in signing Southampton left-back Sam McQueen – whose contract expires at the end of the season. The German tactician seems to have has lost faith in Alberto Moreno and has opted to play James Milner out of position at left-back in recent weeks.

The Daily Star goes onto state that Liverpool are keen to sign Virgil van Dijk. The Netherlands international was the star of the show during the Reds 0-0 draw with Southampton over the weekend.

“It’s not a surprise. It’s not amazing,” Southampton boss Claud Puel was quoted as saying by the Star.

“Since the beginning of the season van Dijk is fantastic and he now keeps good concentration.

“He has the quality and the capacity to defend one against one. It is important with our game because we try to have the ball.

“He can make very good progress and it is it important for the future.”

The report states that the Southampton duo could cost Liverpool a total of £40 million.
