Former Liverpool man slams “disrespectful” Karius criticism but inadvertently creates a storm

Former Liverpool midfielder Didi Hamann has slammed comments from Phil Neville after he heavily criticised goalkeeper Loris Karius.

The German shot-stopper was guilty of another costly mistake on Sunday as he should have done better in stopping a Dimitri Payet free-kick in a 2-2 draw with West Ham United.

It followed on from his blunder in the 4-3 loss to Bournemouth the week before, and in turn he has come under fire from various pundits.

Among them was Neville, as seen in the tweet below, who insisted that Karius needs to ‘keep his mouth shut and do your job’.

It appears as though the first part of that sentence about keeping his mouth shout has particularly riled Hamann, who has insisted that it’s disrespectful and goes beyond the criticism, which Neville is free to dish out.

However, the former Germany international was then picked up on it as supporters and rivals reminded him that Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher said almost the exact same thing at half-time in the game against West Ham.

To his credit, Hamann doubled down on his point rather than backtrack and insisted that Carragher was “out of order too”.

Fair play to Hamann for standing up and defending Karius, but ultimately it all comes down to the Liverpool goalkeeper’s form moving forward which will be the only thing that can silence the critics or give them more reason to hate on him.
