Liverpool midfielder Gioginio Wijnaldum is close friends with Spartak Moscow winger Quincy Promes, according to the Mirror, and has been trying to persuade his international team mate to join him at Anfield.

Wijnaldum, whose thumping header proved to be the difference between Liverpool and title rivals Manchester City at the weekend, has made no secret of his attempts to get Promes to join him working under Jurgen Klopp, as the German manager looks to restore Liverpool to the top of the game.

“Of course I want him to come to Liverpool because I know he is a good player and also a good person who can help the team.” Wijnaldum admitted.

“I think he knows how great Liverpool is – I knew it before I came here. I don’t know if everything is true about what they say as I don’t speak with him about that.

With Sadio Mane now leaving for the Africa Cup of Nations, Jurgen Klopp’s front line is going to be seriously depleted, and reinforcements in the form of Promes could prove vital if they are to catch Chelsea in the title race.
