Borussia Dortmund centre-back Neven Subotic has high praise for former boss Jurgen Klopp.
The pair enjoyed the most successful period of their respective careers together at Dortmund, winning five major honours. Their two Bundesliga titles look all the more impressive now when you consider just how dominant Bayern are in Germany.
The Star cite Starsport in quoting Subotic, who evidently enjoyed the time they spent together at the Westfalenstadion: “Klopp has been my mentor for nine years, he supported me, encouraged me, had trust in me. With him and Dortmund I had the most amazing time. For that I am forever thankful.”
As per the Star, Subotic was heavily linked with a move to Liverpool in the last transfer window, with Klopp looking to sure up his back-line. The German has fallen out with Mamadou Sakho and the damage to their relationship looks irreparable. This leaves him with one less option at the heart of his defence, and thus he may look to the market in a bid to add quality in depth.
It is unclear whether Subotic is a target or not, but these comments suggest that he would be more than keen on a reunion with his former manager.
