Jurgen Klopp in talks with Dortmund stalwart to solve Liverpool crisis

Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp has opened talks with Borussia Dortmund defender Neven Subotic over a possible loan move to Anfield.

The Serbian centre-back is being eyed as a possible solution to the Reds’ defensive problems, which became a full-blown crisis after more defenders were ruled out in Tuesday evenings’ Capital One Cup semi-final first leg against Stoke City.

Liverpool may have won that match, but the victory over Mark Hughes’s side came at a cost; both centre-backs Dejan Lovren and Kolo Toure suffered injuries, adding their names to a lengthening list of afflicted defenders which already includes Martin Skrtel, Joe Gomez and Mamadou Sakho [Mirror].

Indeed, the Mirror claim that the Merseyside giants have no fit centre-backs available ahead of the weekend’s FA Cup match against Exeter City, but it’s a problem that Klopp is seeking to solve swiftly.

According to the tabloid, the German coach has opened discussions with his former club BVB about the possibility of bringing Subotic to Anfield on a loan deal.

The manager is hoping to sign the player in order to bring the Serbia international to the club ahead of the Exeter match, but the club have sounded out other options, with the Mirror noting that Andrea Ranocchia (Inter Milan) and Joel Matip (Schalke 04) are options that have been explored, while Tiago Ilori could be in the squad this weekend after his loan stay at Aston Villa was ended prematurely.
