Liverpool look set to appoint Jurgen Klopp as a very able replacement for sacked boss Brendan Rodgers and TuttoMercato claim that the German manager will look to raid his former club Borussia Dortmund in pursuit of defender Neven Subotic.

The 26-year-old Serbian has been the mainstay of the Westfalensatdion defence since he arrived at the club back in 2008, making 244 appearances for the club, but has had issues with a back problem of late which has left the former Mainz man restricted to just one Bundesliga start thus far this term.

The addition of a strong central defensive weapon could be just what Liverpool need given that Dejan Lovren and Mamadou Sakho haven’t done all that well alongside the usually reliable Martin Skrtel.

Klopp would presumably be handed a decent transfer war-chest if and when he is confirmed as Liverpool boss and the Merseyside outfit may be forced to make big moves in January if they are to challenge for a top four spot.

Liverpool currently sit in tenth spot, just three points off fourth, having collected three wins from their opening eight fixtures.
