Jurgen Klopp to tap former star defender to replace Mamadou Sakho

Mamadou Sakho‘s recent failed drug test has given Jurgen Klopp cause to reconsider his permanent centre-back at Anfield. The French defender’s impending punishments will leave a gaping hole in the middle of Klopp’s team that he will be eager to fill quickly. Luckily for him, his former club could have just the candidate to replace Sakho.

According to Revier Sport [per the Metro], Borussia Dortmund centre-back Neven Subotic has been tipped to reunite with his former manager at Liverpool this summer. Subotic would serve as a replacement for either Sakho or as a long term option to replace veteran defender Martin Skrtel.

Since making his debut for Dortmund in 2008, Subotic has appeared in 251 games and has scored 17 goals for the Bundesliga giants.

Subotic’s ex-teammate Mario Gotze has also been tipped to join up with Klopp at Liverpool this summer. Other Dortmund players linked in some way or another to a Klopp reunion are Ilkay Gundogan, Christian Pulisic and Mats Hummels.
