Arsenal scout top European talent with €60m release clause to bolster attacking options

Arsenal reportedly watched Porto striker Andre Silva in their Champions League encounter with Juventus on Wednesday night as the Gunners consider making a bid.

The 21-year-old has been in fine form so far this season, scoring 18 goals and providing seven assists in 33 appearances in all competitions.

In turn, it’s no surprise that he has been attracting interest from elsewhere in Europe, with ESPN FC reporting that Arsenal are keeping a close eye on him with a view of making a bid this summer.

It’s added that the Portuguese starlet has a €60m release clause in his contract with Porto, and so despite the fact that he’s regarded as one of the top young players in Europe, he won’t be cheap for any interested party hoping to prise him away.

Porto lost the game 2-0 and so now face an uphill struggle against the Turin giants in the second leg next month, and in turn it wasn’t Silva’s best game.

Nevertheless, with Arsenal potentially looking for a new forward if Alexis Sanchez leaves with his contract expiring next summer, the Gunners could be looking at Silva to fill that gap if they believe that he has the right attributes to fit the role.

The report adds that Porto are unsurprisingly keen to avoid losing Silva, but ultimately with their financial limitations, it remains to be seen as to whether or not they’re able to reject a potentially hefty transfer bid for one of their prized assets.

Arsenal are arguably in a similar position in that they would probably prefer to keep Sanchez, but time will tell if they successfully do so and whether or not they’re forced to look at other targets.
