Tottenham fans are in for a nervous few days after Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld were both withdrawn during their side’s 4-0 victory over Stoke City.

Spurs breezed past Stoke to regain second spot in the Premier League and keep the pressure up on leaders Chelsea, but the victory came at a cost. Defensive duo Vertonghen and Alderweireld were both withdrawn after sustaining injuries, with the extent of the damage to both remaining unclear.

Despite being eliminated from the Europa League by Gent midweek, there is still plenty to play for for Mauricio Pochettino’s men this campaign. Spurs remain in the title race, with their spot within the Champions League qualification spots still not sealed. They are also in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup, as Pochettino bids to end his side’s nine-year title drought.

With many games less to play and plenty at stake, the Tottenham faithful will undoubtedly be praying that Vertonghen and Alderweireld are back on the field of play before long.
