Ryan Giggs has picked his Premier League team of the season so far, and Tottenham dominate with five players making the cut.
Naturally, there is a strong Chelsea presence too with David Luiz, N’Golo Kante and Eden Hazard making the line-up, while David De Gea and Antonio Valencia ensure there is Manchester United representation and Adam Lallana also gets the nod.
However, it seems as though Giggs has been really impressed with Tottenham, as the United legend has included Toby Alderweireld, Danny Rose, Mousa Dembele, Dele Alli and Harry Kane in his XI, as per The Telegraph.
Rose has been out with injury in recent weeks and so you could arguably raise a question mark next to his name, but the other four have been pivotal to Tottenham’s push for the Premier League title, while they look likely to now make the top four comfortably.
Mauricio Pochettino will be desperate to bridge that last gap to Chelsea to be a genuine title contender moving forward, although he naturally won’t be giving up hope just yet with seven points separating the two sides with seven games remaining.
However, Jamie Carragher has also had his say on one Spurs player in particular, stating that while he’s very impressed with Dele Alli and the statistics that have been doing the rounds this week, he needs to win trophies to really be considered a top player.
“That has to be Alli’s aim,” Carragher wrote in his Daily Mail column. “Numbers will not define his career, medals and trophies will. If he makes the next step, that is when we can really make comparisons.
“He is the kind of player who comes around once every 20 years, who excites and gets supporters on the edge of their seats.”
Time will tell if Alli can do that in north London, but it’s there for all to see that they are getting the recognition that they deserve this season for being one of the best teams, both collectively and as individuals, in the Premier League.
