Liverpool join transfer battle for £100m teenager, Klopp contacts agent

The race to sign Monaco striker Kylian Mbappe continues to heat up as reports claim that Liverpool have joined the likes of Arsenal and Real Madrid in the battle.

The 18-year-old had a season to remember last year, scoring 26 goals and providing 14 assists as he helped Monaco to the Ligue 1 title and the semi-finals of the Champions League.

However, that form alerted all the top clubs from around Europe, and it seems Liverpool are now ready to make their bid too as The Daily Mail report that Jurgen Klopp has made contact with the Frenchman’s agent with Mbappe expected to fetch over £100m this summer.

It’s added Real Madrid lead the chase as they have the resources to blow the competition out the water when it comes to the transfer fee, but both Arsenal and Liverpool are hopeful of prising him away and persuading him to move to England.

With Klopp now supposedly having preliminary talks with his agent, it remains to be seen whether or not the Reds can force their way to the front of the queue, but there is certainly a long way to go before winning the race even though Monaco seemingly look set to continue to cash in on their top young players.

There’s no denying the quality that Mbappe possesses, and he will undoubtedly continue to improve his game and take it to the next level with a move to a club like Madrid, Liverpool or Arsenal.

However, that £100m+ figure is a lot, and it’s questionable as to whether Liverpool or Arsenal have deep enough pockets to rival Madrid in that regard as they will also likely offer big wages which makes it difficult to see the youngster anywhere but the Bernabeu next season.

Mbappe himself is likely to prioritise having a central role at his next club over money, but a chance to work with Zinedine Zidane and his successful squad will surely be bitterly difficult to turn down.
