Arsenal have reportedly held further talks with Lyon over the signing of Alexandre Lacazette, in a deal worth £49m plus additional payments.
The 26-year-old has been one of the top performers in Ligue 1 in recent seasons, scoring 20+ league goals over the last three years with last season his most prolific yet with 37 goals in 45 appearances in all competitions.
With Lyon unable to build a team around him to bring success to the club, it’s arguably time for him to move on, and according to The Telegraph, Arsenal continue to push forward with trying to get a deal done.
It’s claimed that the Gunners have held more talks with Lyon over the transfer, and that the French international is now the most realistic transfer target for them as they have also been linked with moves for Monaco pair Kylian Mbappe and Thomas Lemar.
Further, the figure quoted is £49m plus additional payments which means that Arsenal would have to break their club transfer record in order to snap Lacazette up.
While they will also hope to keep hold of Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil too with the duo having just 12 months remaining on their contracts, it’s going to be a busy summer for Arsene Wenger and the club as they look to put their Premier League disappointment behind them.
Having finished outside of the top four, it remains to be seen whether or not the lack of Champions League football next season costs them in their transfer work this summer, while they will have to balance out their spending with sales too.
It’s almost a month since the FA Cup final, and Arsenal supporters still have plenty of question marks that need to be addressed sooner rather than later when it comes to this squad and how the club intend on strengthening it.
