Barcelona to miss out on Philippe Coutinho transfer?

Liverpool look to have even more Philippe Coutinho transfer suitors as reports emerge of fresh challengers to Barcelona for the Brazilian’s signature.

According to Don Balon, Juventus are stepping up their interest in the 25-year-old and could be prepared to pay as much as £155million to bring him to Turin.

This follows months of rumours linking Coutinho with Barcelona, whom BBC Sport claimed had three bids turned down for the player during the summer transfer window.

Since then, however, Telefoot have also claimed Paris Saint-Germain could be ready to join the running for Coutinho’s signature, with the former Inter Milan attacker establishing himself as one of Europe’s top players since moving to Anfield.

According to Don Balon’s report, Juventus’ interest in the Coutinho transfer stems from Massimiliano Allegri’s fears over his side’s ability to truly compete with the best of the best in the Champions League.

Juve lost last season’s final to Real Madrid and have perhaps missed the flair in midfield brought to them by Paul Pogba, who left for Manchester United last summer.

While Coutinho would not be a like-for-like replacement, he has that creative spark and eye for goal that could prove essential for taking the Serie A giants to the next level.

Corriere dello Sport have also linked Juventus with a move for Coutinho’s Liverpool team-mate Emre Can in recent months, with the Germany international yet to sign a new contract as he heads towards being a free agent in the summer.
