Six Real Madrid options to replace Gareth Bale: PL trio lead way on star-studded list

Real Madrid star Gareth Bale’s injury nightmare continues as the club confirmed last week he has suffered another setback, and reports claim the Spanish giants could be losing patience.

It’s the latest in a string of setbacks for the Welshman since his move to the Spanish capital in 2013, as he has gradually begun to miss more and more games as the seasons go on.

In turn, that sense of reliability is waning rapidly on a player Los Blancos broke the transfer record for with an £85m fee being spent to prise him away from Tottenham, as per BBC Sport.

His numbers have steadily decreased in terms of performances, as from the 2013/14 campaign to last year, he has made 44, 48, 31 and 27 appearances in all competitions in each campaign, while he’s managed just nine so far this season.

As a result, AS have begun to look at options who could replace him, although that’s assuming that Madrid can offload Bale next summer as it’s questionable as to what club would be willing to spend so much on a player with an injury history such as his.

Nevertheless, the names put forward are Chelsea star Eden Hazard, Tottenham duo Harry Kane and Dele Alli, Paris Saint-Germain star pair Neymar and Kylian Mbappe with Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski rounding off the list.

That’s quite the star-studded shortlist of potential targets for the reigning Spanish and European champions, and so it remains to be seen whether they are in fact able to prise any of them away from their current clubs.

Nevertheless, something surely has to change as if Bale can’t prove his fitness between now and the end of the season, he is merely going to become a more expensive liability.

Having been seen as the player to take the mantle after Cristiano Ronaldo, who turns 33 next year, it simply hasn’t gone to plan for the former Spurs ace, and now he is seemingly at risk of seeing his Madrid dream come to a premature end with speculation building, as seen above, over who may now be able to replace him at the Bernabeu.
