£57m star passed Manchester City medical test this morning as transfer looks imminent

Aymeric Laporte has reportedly passed the first stage of his Manchester City medical as he looks closer to completing a transfer to the Premier League leaders.

The French defender has been linked by the Guardian with a £57million move to the Etihad Stadium for what would be a club-record purchase for City.

Laporte has shone in La Liga and looks a promising talent, and City will feel they’ve done well to snap him up if the deal does eventually go through.

It shouldn’t be too long to wait now as the 23-year-old passed the first part of his medical with the club this morning, according to Marca, as translated by the Manchester Evening News.

City could do with strengthening at the back due to losing Vincent Kompany and John Stones to injury for large chunks of this season so far.

Pep Guardiola will want a great deal of squad depth in order to challenge for major honours on four fronts, with City leading the Premier League and in the final of the Carabao Cup so far.

City could also go far in the Champions League if they maintain their current form, and extra depth to their squad will only aid them in their bid for total domination under Guardiola.
