Manchester United cleared to sign one of the world’s best players as cash-strapped club try to raise £45m

Manchester United can reportedly seal the transfer of Leonardo Bonucci this summer as AC Milan are ready to let him go as they seek to raise £45million in funds.

The Italy international is emerging as a target for the Red Devils in defence and is available this summer, with United preparing to pay around £30m for him, according to the Daily Express.

Bonucci only joined Milan from rivals Juventus last summer, but things have turned sour for the Rossoneri after a disappointing season.

Bonucci himself hasn’t quite looked at his very best in a Milan shirt and it could be a good time for him to move on and kick-start things again in the Premier League.

United manager Jose Mourinho could certainly do with strengthening at the back as he tries to bring in an upgrade on the likes of Chris Smalling and Phil Jones in that area.

Bonucci is one of the best centre-backs in the world on his day and should have little trouble fitting in in England.

Yahoo Sport have also linked United with a continued interest in Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld, though he’d likely be considerably more expensive.
