Man City willing to pay £35M for transfer of under-performing Real Madrid star

Man City are eyeing up a move for France and Real Madrid star Karim Benzema this summer, with the Premier League champions willing to pay up to £35M (€40M) for the forward.

This is as per Don Balon, who note that the striker would fit in well at Man City under Guardiola due to his style of play, and that the Spaniard knows that Benzema has declined rapidly these past few years.

It’s no secret that in the past few years, Benzema has been just a mere shell of his former self, something that should give City fans a bit of cause for concern following this news.

Benzema is wanted by Man City despite his poor goal scoring record these past few years

The French international has been performing way below what he’s capable for Real these past few seasons, with this resorting to some of the Santiago Bernabeu faithful booing the player during home matches.

The 30-year-old has only managed to bag 16 goals in his last 61 La Liga games, a record that is certainly not up to standard for a team like Los Blancos.

Although Benzema does help bring others into play and is unselfish, he should still be managing to score more than the five league goals he managed last season.

If Man City go through with their offer for the player, Real would be mad to reject it seeing as Benzema is on the decline and is reaching the twilight years of his career.
