Although it is only a year-long deal at the moment, Chambers has struggled for regular playing time at Arsenal and it would be little surprise if he were to move on.

The 23-year-old previously also spent the 2016/17 campaign on loan with Middlesbrough, and didn’t do a great deal to impress before returning to the Emirates Stadium set-up last term.

Calum Chambers looks set to leave Arsenal for a loan transfer to Fulham

In total, Chambers has made 83 appearances for Arsenal since he joined back in 2014, when he looked a highly-rated prospect with a big future.

Things clearly haven’t worked out for the player, who also has three England caps, though all of those came four years ago now.

News of this deal comes as Kicker link Arsenal with a big-name signing of their own in defence, with Jerome Boateng targeted from Bayern Munich.

If the club pull it off, a signing like that could undoubtedly be the nail in the coffin of the careers of many of this current Arsenal defence, so it’s perhaps unsurprising to see Chambers nearing an exit, even if only temporarily.

Fulham have had a strong summer in the transfer market and Chambers looks another solid addition alongside big names like Andre Schurrle, Jean Seri and Alfie Mawson.
