Aston Villa player who wanted to leave in January now set for certain summer exit

Calum Chambers is going to leave Aston Villa in the summer transfer window after a move failed to materialise in January.

Football Insider reported that the 29-year-old had rejected three offers from Championship clubs during the winter window and in the end, stayed at Villa Park.

The defender has yet to feature in a Premier League game for Villa this season and has only played three times in the Europa Conference League. Chambers is not part of Unai Emery’s plans and is certain to leave at the end of the season with one year remaining on his current contract.

Speaking to Villa News about Chambers, Dan Bardell has stated that the defender is certain to leave the Premier League club.

I think he’s probably just waiting until the end of the season to see if there are any better options for him to move to. It sounded like he was open to a Championship move, but nothing materialised and he chose to stay,” Bardell said.

“He’s maybe thought he’s got a chance of being part of a team going for the top four and might end up winning a trophy in the Europa Conference League.

“But then he’s ended up being omitted from the squad, so he won’t play any more in the Europa Conference League this season, which is a bit strange. Villa have had to move him out to be able to register other players like Morgan Rogers that have arrived.

“He will go at the end of the season Chambers. It’s been a move that ended up being okay, he came on a free, Villa haven’t lost anything by having him on their books for the last two years.

“He’s not played this season, he played in that first European game and Emery just never seemed to trust him from that moment and it’s been a long way back for him.

“I don’t think we’ll see him unless there’s an emergency, but he’ll definitely be going at the end of the season, 100 per cent.”
