Brazilian superstar reveals why Manchester United transfer never materialised

Liverpool new-boy Fabinho has finally lifted the lid on why a move to Manchester United never came to fruition last summer.

After Monaco’s impressive season Fabinho’s teammates Tiemou Bakayoko, Kylian Mbappe and Bernardo Silva all headed for new beginnings and when a move never materialised the Brazilian, he stayed put with Monaco for the 2017/18 season.

The former Monaco star joined United’s rivals Liverpool this summer, and we will see how the Brazilian fares during his first Premier League campaign as he joins the already stacked midfield ranks at Liverpool.

Fabinho told Sky Sports the reasons behind the move never happening:

“[Manchester] never showed any formal interest, they never made me an offer at all.

“Maybe there was some interest or a conversation but it’s not a case of Monaco not letting me go to Manchester United or denying me the move.

“Nothing ever really materialised.”

Fabinho’s new side Liverpool take on Manuel Pellegrini’s West Ham side at Anfield tomorrow afternoon in their opening game of the new season.

It is too early to establish what kind of an impact Fabinho will have at Liverpool this season but the idea of a possible midfield partnership alongside fellow new signing Naby Keita will definitely excite fans.

The Sun have also picked up on this story, and they stated that the midfielder was tipped to seal a move to Old Trafford last summer, however for the aforementioned reasons stated, it never came about.

The Metro also note that the Red Devils were reportedly interested in signing the 24-year-old.

However, following these words from Fabinho, it seems like this interest was all for nothing.
