“He’s a fantastic goalie” – Van Dijk singles out £67m star for praise after Liverpool win

Liverpool defender Virgil Van Dijk praised new goalkeeper Alisson for his performance in tonight’s 2-0 victory against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

The Red’s earned a well deserved three points on Monday night after a difficult first away game of the new season against Roy Hodgson’s well organised Palace side. James Milner and Sadio Mane got the goals for Jurgen Klopp’s men as they continued their perfect start to the 2019-19 campaign after last weeks comprehensive 4-0 win against West Ham.

Liverpool didn’t have it all their own way this evening, however, as the Eagles managed to hit the woodwork and force Alisson into making a couple of brilliant saves which stopped the momentum from shifting in the match.

The Brazilian goalkeeper had little to do at Anfield last week but tonight he paid back some of the £67 million fees that the club forked out for his services in the summer – as per The Telegraph – with a great performance.

Virgil Van Dijk produced a similarly polished display at centre-back and speaking after the game he spoke of his admiration for the 25-year-old shot-stopper.

“It’s fantastic. You see how composed he is, the presence he has, he’s a fantastic goalie.” Van Dijk told reporters, according to The Liverpool Echo.

“We are all very happy to have him in the team, he’s a good character as well, I’m very happy with him.”

Alisson’s arrival at the club during the transfer window solved the goalkeeping problem Klopp has had to deal with for much of his tenure at Anfield and supporters will hope that he can continue to produce high-quality performances for the remainder of the season as Liverpool look to chase down Manchester City.
