Man Utd star on two-man transfer shortlist for La Liga outfit as deadline looms

Sevilla are reportedly considering a late bid for Man Utd forward Anthony Martial amid ongoing uncertainty over his future.

The 22-year-old made 45 appearances in all competitions last season, scoring 11 goals and providing nine assists to offer what many would arguably consider a decent return.

However, regularly used as a substitute and having struggled to cement his place in Jose Mourinho’s starting line-up, it has seemingly created question marks over his long-term future at Old Trafford.

As noted by the Guardian, there have also been off-the-field matters which have added to the apparent tension between the two, and so Marca suggest that the Frenchman could yet have an escape route emerge with Sevilla considering either him or Paris Saint-Germain’s Julian Draxler as a late signing.

The transfer window is still open in Spain until August 31, and so there is still time for the La Liga outfit to make their move if they settle on Martial.

It remains to be seen if Man Utd would now green light an exit though given that they wouldn’t be able to sign a replacement until the January transfer window, and so Mourinho may wish to avoid losing quality and depth for the first half of the season.

With a wealth of attacking options at coach Pablo Machin’s disposal at Sevilla too, including the likes of Andre Silva, Wissam Ben Yedder, Nolito and Luis Muriel, it’s unclear as to whether another attacker is necessarily needed at the club this month.

Time will tell if an official bid is launched for Martial, but with Alexis Sanchez, Marcus Rashford and Romelu Lukaku likely to keep him out of the starting line-up again this season, it could be a sensible idea from his perspective to consider a move elsewhere.
