Lyon forward Mariano Diaz has turned down a return to Real Madrid this summer, with fellow Spanish side Sevilla reportedly eyeing up a move for the attacker.

This is according to Don Balon, who note that Los Blancos had contacted the player’s agent about a move this summer, and that they were willing to double the wage Mariano is on at Lyon.

The report also states that Sevilla have made an approach for the 25-year-old, so it looks like Real aren’t alone in their pursuit of the striker this summer.

Mariano has turned down a last-minute switch to Real Madrid this summer

Mariano, who Don Balon have stated in the past has an asking price of €80M, would be a superb signing for Real, however it most likely would be one that angers some fans considering they club only let the player leave last summer.

Mariano proved to be absolutely lethal for Lyon this season just gone, as he bagged 21 goals and seven assists in all competitions to help the club secure a third place finish in the league.

With Karim Benzema seriously struggling to find his form these past few years, Mariano would’ve been a smart signing by Los Blancos, however following this recent report, it doesn’t seem as if a move will be materialising this summer.

Only time will tell if Real bring in a forward to compete with Benzema this summer, however if they are to, they only have a few days to get a deal over the line considering the transfer window closes next week.
