AC Milan transfer news: €40m Premier League star eyed in January

AC Milan have reportedly not yet given up on Anthony Martial and will continue their pursuit in the January transfer window.

The 22-year-old made 45 appearances in all competitions last season, but he struggled to secure a regular place in Jose Mourinho’s starting line-up despite scoring 11 goals and providing nine assists.

That looks set to continue this season as he has featured in just one of the three Premier League games thus far, and so perhaps an exit will become more appealing in order for him to secure a prominent role elsewhere and play football consistently to get the best out of himself.

According to Calciomercato, that opportunity could still come via Milan who were linked with a move this past summer transfer window, but it’s suggested that they could revisit the idea of signing the Frenchman in January and onwards with his €40m valuation in mind.

Gennaro Gattuso has options on the left flank in the likes of Hakan Calhanoglu and summer signing Samu Castillejo, but the Italian tactician still arguably needs an out-and-out winger to add pace and movement out wide to offer a different dynamic in the final third.

Further, Martial could also play up front, with Gonzalo Higuain and Patrick Cutrone his only options in that department which perhaps leaves him a little light given Milan are looking to compete on various fronts this season.

With that in mind, a swoop for Martial makes plenty of sense, but time will tell if they can firstly convince United to sell, and then on from that, if the former Monaco starlet is keen on the idea of a switch to Serie A.

On paper, it looks like such a move could solve problems for both parties.
