Real Madrid were absolutely hammered by fans this evening after the club announced new signing Mariano Diaz would be handed Cristiano Ronaldo’s old number 7 shirt this season.
Diaz, who joined the club from Lyon, certainly isn’t the star that most Real fans would’ve expected to see take Ronaldo’s old number at the Santiago Bernabeu this season.

Real confirmed on Twitter during Mariano’s unveiling that he is the wearer of the club’s number 7 this season, something we’re sure a fair few Los Blancos fans out there are disappointed with.
No disrespect to Mariano, but we’re sure that the club’s supporters may have been expecting a player in the ilk of Neymar or Mohamed Salah to take over from Ronaldo as the club’s fabled number 7 this season.
Following this decision and announcement from the club, fans took to Twitter to slate the Spanish giants’ choice to give Mariano the number 7, with some branding it a “disgrace”.
