Announcement imminent: Chelsea star to fly out to finalise transfer today

Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas is reportedly set to fly to Monaco to complete his transfer away from Stamford Bridge today.

According to the Sun, the deal could be officially announced within the next 24 hours as the Spaniard prepares to link up with former Arsenal team-mate Thierry Henry in Ligue 1.

Fabregas had an emotional farewell for Chelsea yesterday as he left the pitch in tears following their FA Cup third round win over Nottingham Forest.

The 31-year-old has not been as much of a regular for the Blues this season, so a move away makes sense for him now.

The French top flight could be ideal as a next move for him, with Fabregas still possessing his technique and intelligence, but perhaps now lacking the physicality to compete week in, week out in the Premier League.

Fabregas and Henry were both key players for Arsenal back in the day and Gooners will no doubt be keeping an eye on how the pair get on at Monaco.

It hasn’t been the best start for the former French striker as Monaco boss, but he’s had a long injury list to contend with after inheriting a struggling side from his predecessor Leonardo Jardim.

A signing like Fabregas could also be useful for Monaco to improve in the second half of the campaign.
