Liverpool expected to not continue with pursuit of 22 y/o midfielder

Liverpool are said to be backing away from their recent interest in OGC Nice midfielder Khephren Thuram this summer.

The Daily Mail recently reported that the Reds have been tracking the Frenchman, but will no longer proceed with a potential deal.

Khephren is the son of France legend Lillian Thuram and his brother Marcus currently plays for Borussia Monchengladbach in the Bundesliga.

He’s featured in 33 Ligue 1 matches with Nice so far this season and provided six goal contributions. The 22-year-old has played as either a central or holding midfielder for the majority of the 2022/23 campaign.

Neil Jones, a journalist and Liverpool correspondent for Goal.com described Thuram as a player with “huge potential” when speaking to Redmen TV last month.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Reds are close to appointing Jorg Schmadtke as their new Director of Football.

Perhaps this change of heart on their interest in the Nice midfielder is part of the new direction under the German, who will likely be working alongside manager Jurgen Klopp on transfers.

With the transfer window not even open yet, Liverpool still have plenty of time to piece together their strategy. They’ll need a clear and effective plan if they’re to hit the ground running next season.
