“We’ve learnt so much” – Grealish dissects how City have improved in the last year

Manchester City’s Jack Grealish said that the team has “learnt so much” in the last year following their Champions League semi-final first-leg clash with Real Madrid.

It finished 1-1 at the Santiago Bernabeu, with the return fixture taking place at the Etihad next week.

Vinicius Jr gave Los Blancos the lead in the first half, but Man City would get themselves level through Kevin De Bruyne in the second half.

Speaking to BT Sport after the game, Grealish spoke about what’s changed since the sides played a year ago and he believes that City now has the perfect balance of experience and youth.

He stated, “We have a new team this year, different players and it’s a year ago. I think one thing that I can say is we’ve learnt so much since last year. We have the perfect balance of experience and a few youngsters, obviously, Phil [Foden], Erling [Haaland], youngsters like that who are just world-class.

“Then we have the experience and then I think we just have quality and I said in an interview the other week that I swear I’ve never felt so confident going on to the pitch and having the players around me.”

The England international has had a fantastic 2022/23 campaign and is really starting to look worth his £100 million price tag when they signed him from Aston Villa nearly two years ago.

In 27 league appearances, the 27-year-old has 12 goal contributions so far this season. In all competitions, the winger has 16 goals and assists combined.

Rio Ferdinand described him as “almost unplayable” following an earlier Champions League game against RB Leipzig in February (as quoted by the Daily Mail).

Working under a manager like Pep Guardiola has certainly done wonders for the former Villa star, he’s developed his game and helped him become one of the best wide players in the Premier League this season.
