Man United could ‘sacrifice’ £45m star as way to raise summer funds

Recent reports suggest Man United could be open to the possibility of selling Jadon Sancho during the current summer transfer window in order to generate funds for other potential deals.

That’s according to transfer journalist Pete O’Rourke, who has reported that the Red Devils could offload the former Borussia Dortmund winger if a suitable offer arrives this summer.

Sancho, who joined United two years ago for a whopping £73m (Sky Sports), is now valued at just £45m (TM).

And although the Englishman has, at times, shown glimpses of his immense talent, he has struggled to consistently make a significant impact at Old Trafford.

Reported interest from other clubs, including Tottenham Hotspur (Daily Star) in United’s number 25, combined with the club’s desire to strengthen their squad in other areas, could lead to the club considering Sancho’s departure.

“I’m told a surprise exit for Jadon Sancho is possible,” O’Rourke told Football Insider.

“United could reluctantly consider offers for the winger, who hasn’t played his best football since arriving at Old Trafford in 2021.

“Sources say Sancho could be sacrificed to help bring in the club’s top targets – if the right offer arrives.”

While United invested heavily in Sancho’s acquisition, a potential sale could help alleviate some financial burden and provide the necessary resources to pursue other targets.

The Red Devils recently reached an agreement to sign Mason Mount from Chelsea for £60m (including add-ons), and according to the Guardian, are open to signing Inter Milan’s Andre Onana.

However, any decision regarding Sancho’s future is likely to be carefully considered, taking into account his age, potential, as well as the long-term objectives of the club.
