Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez has withdrawn from international duty with Uruguay due to injury.

Starting and playing the entire 120 minutes worth of action, Nunez’s contributions during Sunday’s brutal FA Cup quarter-final tie against bitter-rivals Manchester United appear to have come at a cost.

Reportedly struggling with some ‘discomfort’ in his hamstring following Sunday’s match at Old Trafford, Nunez, 24, has been forced to miss his country’s upcoming friendlies against Basque County and the Ivory Coast.

Liverpool injury news: Darwin Nunez forced to withdraw from international duty

The Liverpool forward, according to talkSPORT, has already spoken to Marcelo Bielsa about his injury with the 68-year-old veteran manager agreeing to remove him from his international squad.

Consequently, Nunez is now expected to return to Liverpool where he will be assessed ahead of the Reds’ next Premier League game against Brighton and Hove Albion on 31st March.

Jurgen Klopp, after seeing his side slip to second in the table following their 1-1 draw against Manchester City, will be desperate for his in-form striker to get back to full fitness in time for the Premier League’s final 10-game run-in.
